I now own a 250€ brick

Post by Hopeapullaaaa » 15 Oct 2010, 13:04

Just now I was cheerfully minding my own business thinking: "Gee, I am so lucky to have a malfunctioning iPod Touch without any water-caused problems which cause a loss of warranty." Then, the following happened:

I'm not even mad.

End result is iPod no longer booting up. Also, the indicator doesn't seem to be red, yet. If it doesn't turn red, should I just not mention about it and try to get a new one?

There was some common problem where there's something wrong and it's playing only on one headphone.

Haha.. sorry man, ouch.

Could you not leave it turned off and try and dry it out or was it already broken when you fished it out?

It was on when it fell there, as I was just about to change songs. When I fished it out, the touch screen was quite dark and didn't work, so I couldn't turn it off. I tried to hold both the buttons but it just rebooted the device. Eventually the screen got pitch black, I suppose it's off. Or the screen is just broken, and it's actually on.

try putting a towel on top of a radiator which isnt absolutely boiling hot (just warm) then put the phone on the towel

I say not boiling hot because there's probably some limit to what heat some components should be exposed to

dunno if it will work but it's worth a try imo

Don't want to try that. I took some small moisture removal bag things and put them into a box with the ipod. I'm not sure what I'm hoping for, but it can't make matters worse.

Name another product which has good/average wlan capability, good/average music player, decent supply of applications and a reasonable price, pls

A LAPTOP!

In all seriousness, I don't know any other MP3 players with wlan, but that's because they're MP3 players, not smartphones or a laptops. The market for MP3 players is quite shit at the moment, but Creative's Zen series used to be quite nice, especially the ones with SDHC readers because you can effectively expand your capacity for cheaps.

e: the creative zen x-fi (not x-fi 2) 16 and 32gb variants have wlan but only for a shitty MSN messenger implementation and streaming media from a PC.

Well, I love(d) my ipod because of that wlan ability, most of the places I spend my time in have wlan connections so I was able to stream movies, music and whatnot if I didn't have access to a PC. Also, the battery life was pretty cool.

I *could* get a phone with wlan, but most phones don't have as nice screen as an ipod touch does. Touch screen phones do, but for phones I don't like to have a touch screen.

Does anyone know if the water damage indicator turns red immediately after water contact, or does it take some time?

I do think some phones have a nice screen. I think iPhone4's retina screen is much better than iPhone 3GS'. Which must mean it's better than ipod touch's.

There are also other phones with a good screen. Personally I have got HTC Desire and it has a nice screen.

I'm curious as to why you like a touch screen on an mp3 player but not a phone??

I love my Samsung Jet and found it's made stuff like texting and navigating the menus alot quicker over my old K800i. It also has an OLED screen which if you put it next to a rival phone such as the Nokia X6, you can see the Jet is alot brighter and nicer to look at. (Sorry Lydia :D :D :D)

I think the higher end ones such as the Samsung Galaxy S amongst other manufacturers products have something called superOLED which is supposedly even nicer!

I don't find touch screen that handy for phones, I prefer buttons.

In other news: The water damage indicator is slightly pink, in one corner. I probably won't get a free new one, but I'll try when there's no more traces of water inside the screen.

I seem to be able to synchronize it with my PC now. It still doesn't look like the touch screen works.
